Hype has a tendency of running out of control and shooting expectations skywards, only to leave a plethora of disappointed fans in its wake, yet without a certain degree of hype people would treat Serpent Saints as they have the last five albums – good, but nothing incredible.
Serpent Saints: The Ten Amendments is the ninth album by Swedish death metal band Entombed, and their last one before their two-year break up from 2014-2016. It is the first album with bassist Nico Elgstrand and drummer Olle Dahlstedt, as well as the band's first without longtime guitarist Uffe Cederlund. Their last full length release was 2007s Serpent Saints and since then they’ve been embroiled in internal strife and various litigations. As a result, the faction of the band led by vocalist L.G. Petrov have adopted the moniker of Entombed A.D. and without founding guitarist Alex Hellid, they’re poised to begin the next phase of their careers with Back to the Front .

In my humble opinion, Serpent Saints is the most aggressive and more death metal based album since Clandestine, but still has some grimy death and roll mixed in, less punk, less forced primal tones, less quirk, less bullshit and just beefy, mid range nihilism and anti religious themes.

It's a definitive Death Metal album for one, without more than a touch of the punk/hardcore junk Entombed have been selling for years. CoC : Entombed - Serpent Saints : Review : It's hard to talk about Entombed's decline without perhaps exaggerating a bit, as the band have rarely out and out embarrassed themselves, and in fact seem capable of consistently putting out albums worth anything from a 7 to an 8 out of 10 rating; but I think fans rightly expect a band of this pedigree to occasionally knock one out of the park. When comparing 2007’s Serpent Saints to 1990’s Left Hand Path, you will see a starlingly different sound, but both are powerful and completely relevant to today’s music scene. Okay, now that I am done with my long winded diatribe, let’s get to the meat and potatoes. Entombed’s Reviews. Entombed Serpent Saints. Album number nine finds Swedish death metal originators Entombed back on the right page.
